Pressure grows on Swinney over rules on gender

JOHN SWINNEY is facing uproar over a bid to delay any implementation of the Supreme Court's gender ruling until after the Holyrood election.

A public sector ban on men being allowed into female-only facilities such as toilets and changing rooms is unlikely to be implemented until 2026.

Holyrood is facing legal action over its policy of gender self-identification, which was brought in despite legislation for it being struck down by the Tory UK Government.

It allows people to use what single-sex facilities in which they “feel most comfortable”.

Other public bodies, such as the Scottish Prison Service and Police Scotland, adopted this policy, in effect meaning potentially dangerous men were locked up in female spaces.
