THE Scottish Government has secretly amended its own internal guidance to ban biological men from using female facilities, in a major victory for women's rights campaigners.

The SNP administration was holding out on updating its official guidelines for employees until it had considered the Supreme Court ruling, issued back in April.

There was a major backlash by some in the SNP after the Scottish Parliament became the first public body to update its rules on single-sex facilities to reflect the fact that biological sex cannot be changed.

It led to criticism from some SNP MSPs as well as the Scottish Greens.

But now the government has confirmed that it has quietly tweaked its rules for staff. Its trans inclusion policy has had one line deleted to ensure the document is now within the law.

A spokeswoman told journalists that the line which says “trans staff should choose to use the facilities they feel most comfortable with” is now no more.

It happened earlier this week but wasn’t announced publicly as it is an internal change rather than a public one.
