Man denied an ambulance after having a seizure

A MAN who collapsed on the street after a seizure was offered a “remote consultation” instead of an ambulance.

Gregor Logan, 23, suffered bilateral dislocations of both shoulders and hit his head when he fell in Aberdeen in July.

A passerby called 999 in the expectation of getting an ambulance. But staff at the Scottish Ambulance Service’s control centre advised that instead of dispatching a vehicle, they wanted to undertake a further assessment by telephone or video.

Instead, Gregor and his father Martin were driven by Police Scotland officers to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he underwent 10 hours of emergency surgery.

The Scottish Conservatives described the incident as “deeply distressing” and said it should have never reached the point where Scotland’s “overwhelmed” police force were stepping in for paramedics.

Mr Logan, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, has now made a formal complaint to the SAS.
