Man, 22, late for work hit young dad crossing road

A SPEEDING driver who killed a young father has been jailed - and the judge suggested he do charity work in memory of his victim after he is freed.

Evan Davis, 22, hit Stephen McGovern while running late for a work shift more than two years ago in Edinburgh.

The 21-year-old victim, a cafe worker, is thought to have been crossing Calder Road for a bus when he was struck by the car.

Davis was yesterday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow to three years and nine months in jail.

He had earlier admitted causing Mr McGovern's death by dangerous driving.

Sentencing him, Judge Lord Arthurson referred to a comment which the defendant had made after the collision.

Davis asked police: "How am I going to live with this?"

Addressing Davis, Lord Arthurson said: "I would suggest that you approach the sentence of imprisonment constructively as you can.
