Lifetime ban for OAP who stalked BBC Scotland host

BBC Scotland presenter Anne McAlpine has described how her stalker ordeal left her feeling like a “completely different person”.

Anne McAlpine said ordeal was 'terrifying'

The 39-year-old star was speaking after Robert Green, 71, was ordered to stay away from her for the rest of his life by a sheriff in Glasgow.

He repeatedly prowled at her home, sent her unwanted gifts and letters — including about the late Princess Diana and Rangers Football Club — as well as penning love poems to her.

Green was found guilty of engaging in a course of conduct which left Ms McAlpine in fear and alarm between February 2021 and November 2024.

Sheriff Owen Mullan told him: “Your behaviour was sinister, unwelcomed and upsetting for your victim.

“You showed little remorse or insight to your behaviour.”

However, the sheriff said that “with some hesitation” he had decided against sending him to prison.

Instead, the stalker was sentenced to two years of supervision and given a lifetime non-harassment order.

His victim said her ordeal started with letters being delivered to BBC Scotland’s HQ in Glasgow in 2021.

“They were handwritten, all signed off by the same name in capital letters,” she told BBC Scotland’s news podcast, Scotcast.
