A FORMER SNP MP said Scotland had become “blighted by McCarthyism” as Sandie Peggie was recalled to deal with allegations she was homophobic and racist.

The final day of evidence in Ms Peggie’s employment tribunal against NHS Fife and Dr Beth Upton heard the nurse was accused of faking a heavy period before a confrontation with the transgender medic in the female changing room.

Jane Russell KC also suggested Ms Peggie was “put up” to the legal action by her local MP, former SNP and Alba parliamentarian Neale Hanvey.
