Labour doesn't have the stomach to truly fix broken economy

RACHEL Reeves is in a seismic mess of her own making.

Labour doesn't have the stomach to truly fix broken economy

The Chancellor may have pledged more money for schools, hospitals and the armed forces in her spending review — but she also vowed there’d be no return to austerity. No wonder Mel Stride branded Reeves a “tin foil Chancellor” who is “weak, weak, weak”. She’s a deluded fantasist who pivots from one crisis to the next with a plan as lightweight as her persona.

Forget her promise to raise NHS funding by an extra 3% a year. The main thing we can expect to go up now is our taxes. The economy has flatlined, with no meaningful growth in sight, while the Government is running a £150billion deficit and is already spending more than £100billion a year on debt interest — more than is spent on defence and policing combined.

Reeves’s tax rises have led unemployment rates to hit their highest levels for four years, while millions remain out of the workforce under the ever expanding umbrella of “mental health” (though you won’t hear her phrase it quite like that).
