Climate activist detained as part of group sailing to Gaza

- By Chris Samuel

GRETA Thunberg was yesterday put on a plane back to her native Sweden from Israel after she was detained on a Gaza aid boat.

Along with two other activists and a journalist she agreed to be deported, according to Adalah, a legal rights group in Israel represent-ing the flotilla’s passengers.

Others who are challenging their deportation are being held in detention, the group said.

Yesterday the Israeli foreign ministry shared photos of the 22-year-old climate activist on a plane, noting she had “just departed Israel on a flight to Sweden”, her native country, via Paris.

She was held while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza along with a dozen or so others on the Madleen, a humanitarian vessel attempting get supplies there.
