Scottish Government Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville met UK Asylum Minister Alex Norris yesterday and claimed that none of her questions were answered.

THE Scottish Government has blasted “disinformation” about the plan to house 300 male asylum seekers in Inverness Barracks and hedged on whether it supports the idea.

A spokesman for First Minister John Swinney refused repeatedly to say whether he backed the principle of Inverness housing migrants.

According to the latest figures from Mears, a private company that houses asylum seekers, there are none in the Highlands. Glasgow has borne the brunt of the challenge.

The UK government want the migrants out of hotels and into vacant military establishments.

Cameron Barracks in Inverness and Crowborough Training Camp in East Sussex are in the frame.
