Gridlock fright at end of tunnel as strike looming

THOUSANDS of drivers risk being stuck in standstill traffic after Clyde Tunnel control-room workers voted in favour of a strike.

The road is one of the busiest in Glasgow, connecting the south and north of the city. It is also located near Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and it is estimated about 65,000 drivers a day use the route.

A team of 10 based in the city’s Whiteinch monitors the tunnel. The control room workers control the ventilation and respond to breakdowns and road emergencies.
