GANGSTER SCOTS GUNNED DOWN IN COSTA DEL SOL 'ASSASSINATION'

TWO Scottish men have been shot dead in a gangland 'assassination' in front of horrified tourists on the Costa del Sol.

Glasgow organised crime figures Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr were gunned down in the seaside town of Fuengirola on Saturday night.

Police say they were blasted by a masked man who got out of a vehicle that screeched to a halt outside a beachfront bar.

He opened fire before fleeing the same in the same vehicle, driven by an accomplice.

It was around 11.30pm and the promenade was packed with crowds of holidaymakers and many people who had been watching the Champions League final earlier in the evening.

The bar, Monaghans, is reportedly owned by one of the victims.

Monaghan, 43, was a member of Glasgow's Lyons gang and fled.

Scotland in 2017 after being shot by a gunman lurking outside a primary school in Penilee.

He was cleared of the murder of the notorious Glasgow hood Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll, a leading enforcer for the rival Daniel crime family.

Carroll was executed outside an Asda supermarket in 2010 in one of Scotland's most infamous murders.

Lyons Jr, 46, is the older brother of Steven Lyons, 44, said to be the head of the organised crime group, now based in Dubai and Spain.

Spanish media reported that officers from the regional specialist and violent crime unit had launched an investigation.

Roadblocks were set up throughout the resort in a bid to trace the vehicle involved in the shooting.

Authorities in Spain say the first victim was shot in the chest and the second in the chest and abdomen.

The shootings will ramp up tension in Scots underworld
