Express legend Kerry Gill dies, aged 78

KERRY GILL, former editor and political editor of the Scottish Daily Express, has died aged 78.
Kerry, who was the son of a doctor and from County Durham, moved from local newspapers in north east England in the late 1970s to The Scotsman in Edinburgh and was quickly recognised as an authoritative and talented writer.
Riots
Before his move north, Kerry visited France and witnessed the 1968 student riots. The 21-year-old was bundled into a van by gendarmerie and taken to a police station where he was held for several hours.
