Planning your own picture-perfect getaway over the next few weeks? Then check out these stunning seaside routes... each with a pub at the end to whet your appetite
DRAMATIC views, big skies and a cooling sea breeze are what anyone seeks on a clifftop walk. And with autumn fast approaching, many of us will be planning a final summer amble whether that's a gentle seaside stroll or more challenging coastal clamber.
Fortunately, the UK is blessed with pubs aplenty, providing thirsty Britons many chances to refresh themselves along the way. From enchanting inns to dog-friendly watering holes, there is no shortage of places to wash down a pie and a pint - or a glass of fizz with fish and chips.
Here's our guide to eight of the best walks with a perfect pub pitstop...
Golden Cap circular walk, Dorset, ending at the Anchor Inn in Seatown
(Distance: 4.2 miles, Time: 1.5/2 hours, Difficulty: Challenging)
THIS takes you up to the highest point on England's south coast. At 627ft, Golden Cap is quite the climb to the top, with some very steep sections, but the views along Dorset's Jurassic Coastline are well worth the effort.
The Golden Cap lies on a large National Trust estate filled with farmland, meadows, woodland and the "lost" village of Stanton St Gabriel. Following the South West Coast Path, most of the trail is clearly signposted and easy to follow.
After you reach the summit, retrace your steps back down Golden Cap and along the South West Coast Path to Seatown where you will find the Anchor Inn. The gastro pub serves locally sourced seafood and hearty roasts and has stunning sea views.
Moments from the beach, the inn also offers rooms to stay. theanchorinnseatown.co.uk
Holywell Bay to Perranporth, Cornwall, ending at The Watering Hole
(Distance: 4.6 miles, Time: 1.5/2 hours, Difficulty: Easy/Moderate)
TAKING in another stretch of the South West Coastal Path, this time in North Cornwall, this starts and ends at two iconic beaches. It is made up of flat sections along the beach although walking on sand can be tough mixed with some small cliff top climbs.
