Dementia carers and sufferers are left to cope alone

ONE in five people affected by dementia do not receive healthcare, social care or financial support, a damning report has revealed.

An Alzheimer’s Society poll found that under half of those who did receive support were satisfied, and only 29% said it was easy to access.

More than half believed that could be improved with increased assistance from trained carers.

Prof Fiona Carragher, the charity’s chief policy and research officer, warned the daily realities of living with dementia “often remain hidden” despite the condition affecting almost one million people in the UK.
