'Danger to life' warning with 95mph Storm Amy closing in

SCOTS have been warned to brace for gusts of 95mph from Storm Amy tonight — 20mph stronger than hurricane-force.

The storm is the tail end of two tropical hurricanes which will constitute a “danger to life” in the affected areas.

Power cuts and widespread travel disruption are expected from the first named storm of the season, formed from the remnants of Hurricanes Imelda and Humberto.

The Scottish Government’s Multi Agency Response Team will convene to help coordinate recovery operations.

Amber warnings - the second highest possible - have been issued for Grampian, Highlands and Islands, Orkney and Shetland and Argyll and Bute.
