IMAGINE if the captain of the England football team had been involved in a scuffle with nightclub security on the eve of a match, gone on to play (badly) in that match, a match that his team lost.

His antics were mildly punished by the bosses of the national side but kept hidden until they emerged in a newspaper report two months later.

Imagine that. Imagine the furore.

When the headline referenced Harry Brook alongside a bouncer, instinct wondered if he tried to ramp it over the long leg boundary.

But it turns out Brook, captaining the one-day team in New Zealand ahead of the disastrous Ashes tour, was manhandled by a doorman while being refused entry to a club because the staff considered him to be drunk.
