Floods and cancellations of ferries, flights and trains as 90mph storm sweeps country

- BY BEN BORLAND

SCOTLAND was plunged into flooding chaos as Storm Bram wreaked havoc across the country.

Ferries, flights and trains were cancelled as heavy rainfall and winds of up to 90mph caused widespread disruption.

The Met Office issued amber and yellow weather warnings for rain and wind, with flooding and flying debris in some areas.

By yesterday afternoon, at least 33 flood warnings had been issued by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

SEPA said a combination of high tides and wild weather was expected to cause coastal flooding, including on the Clyde at Renfrew and Dumbarton.

Closed

Residents along the Firth of Clyde in both Ayrshire and Argyll and Bute were also urged to "act now" by the agency.

Meanwhile, 15 flood alerts were issued for areas including Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.

Several schools across the Highlands closed early due to the forecast, with power cuts feared likely.
