280 migrants arrested in food delivery rider raids

MIGRANTS face deportation after being caught working illegally during a week-long blitz by the Home Office.
The department said 280 people were arrested during the sting, which targeted the gig economy and food delivery industry, with 89 set to be kicked out of Britain.
It said that another 53 may lose their taxpayer-funded accommodation and support payments.
The arrests come after the Home Office’s Immigration Enforcement department was handed £5million to ramp up operations against migrants working illegally for firms such as JustEat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
It is known that some small boat arrivals have been using taxpayer-funded hotels as a base to work as food delivery drivers.
