Active youngsters at a Cambuslang school gave three cheers to a local business whose generous sponsorship helped them to get on their bikes at the area's popular cycle park.

Programme was wheely good for kids

Senior pupils at James Aiton Primary have taken part in special coaching sessions at Clyde Cycle Park for the past two years thanks to the support of Dickson Chemist, who funded the development of a tailored programme allowing the children access to bikes and learn to ride.

They and head teacher Kerry McGhee recently presented managers Stephen Dickson and Nadine Miller with a poster showcasing their photos and highlights, sharing how the cycle training had boosted their skills and confidence to recognise the help provided by the local business.

Groups of primary six and seven pupils from James Aiton - the closest school to the 250m circuit at Dale Avenue - were the first to take part in the cycle park's schools programme when it was launched in 2023, taking part in training with professional coaches as well as woodland nature walks.

Now 3000 people have used the popular facility since its opening, with the schools’ programme since expanding to work with West Coats Primary, Trinity High and additional support needs bases at Linburn Academy, Toryglen and Duncanrig.
