Vandal-hit pub to be flats

A LANDMARK former Runcorn pub repeatedly targeted by vandals is to be converted into flats.

Halton Council planners approved an application to transform the former Union Tavern pub on Union Street into six apartments.

The boozer had been a mainstay of the local community for years but landlords called last orders for the final time last February, saying it was no longer 'financially sustainable'.

Following its closure it became a target for vandalism and antisocial behaviour, with police called out on multiple occasions. It was boarded up last April but targeted by yobs again soon after.
