The Sikh community has lost a towering hero of the Dharam Yudh Morcha — a fearless, outspoken, and devoted Sikh leader, Captain Harcharan Singh Rode.

The son of Baba Joginder Singh Khalsa (Rode), former head of the United Akali Dal, and elder brother of Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, Captain Harcharan Singh Rode departed from this mortal world at 6 a.m. on November 1, 2025.

Undoubtedly, his great sacrifices and selfless services to the Sikh Panth will forever keep his memory alive. He will continue to live in Sikh history and in our hearts. After retiring from the Indian Army, he dedicated over four decades of his life to Sikh politics, remaining absolutely untainted and fully devoted to the service of the Panth. His personality possessed a unique radiance.

Captain Sahib was a man of great courage — he rescued hundreds of young Sikhs from police custody. Fearlessly, he would walk alone into the offices of notorious and oppressive police officers. His presence alone would send tremors through police stations and officers’ chairs. He was one of the very few leaders who fought barefoot against state tyranny during that dark era. Remarkably, despite his influence and respect, he never ran after high positions or material wealth. With humility and patience, he served the Sikh community with unwavering devotion, earning deep respect for his simplicity and integrity.
