The truth-teller who challenged SA’s political landscape

WE WILL always remember the straight-talking Neil de Beer, president of the UIM (United Independent Movement) for his bravery and the way that he called out ANC cadres, the EFF and recently, Jacob Zuma's MK Party.

De Beer, having been Nelson Mandela’s national security adviser and also a former uMkhonto we Sizwe operative, knew South African politics better than most people. Being able to speak Zulu, De Beer also used to drop some very catchy phrases on his listeners, giving his podcasts a sure edge above the rest.

He was also a councillor for the city of Cape Town.

What I will personally miss the most about this incredible individual is his sharp sense of humour, his ability to identify politician's political gameplay, and his fearlessness when it came to holding the ANC to account.
