Tenpenny can be worth the coin

RACING at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth today is the calm before the Grade 1 storm. The season ushered in racing at the highest level at Turffontein on Saturday with the Betway Summer Cup and this weekend the big-race roadshow heads to Cape Town for the Grade 1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas. As a result, the fields for the curtain raiser on Wednesday are on the small side with a few apprentice races on the card. One race however, race 4 over 1500m, has attracted a fascinating field.

- ALISTAIR COHEN

Tenpenny has always given the impression that he is upwardly mobile. Trainer Patrick Kruyer and regular rider JP van der Merwe have always offered positive opinions about him. He has a good pointer at the weights against some lively chances. He could be the horse to side with.

Handsome Prince

Handsome Prince is considered as a danger but they met on 25 October at Hollywoodbets Durbanville over 1400m. Tenpenny finished 4,3 lengths ahead of Handsome Prince. He is 1,5kg worse off which should be enough to hold the advantage over Handsome Prince.

Furthermore, adding to any confidence is that Handsome Prince ran a brilliant race subsequently when he pushed the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas favourite, Gimmie Rules all the way to the line a few weeks ago. For that reason alone, Handsome Prince must be respected but on paper, he should not have enough tools to turn that deficit from October around.
