BROTHERS Ferrel Govender and Darren Govender are set to stand trial in November for the premeditated murder of businessman Shailen Singh, allegedly motivated by a love affair that led to a deadly confrontation.
The indictments in the case of Ferrel, 41, the group chief executive officer of Pro Secure, a security company, and Darren, 36, were served in the Durban Magistrate’s Court last Friday.
The brothers are accused of killing 32-year-old Singh in December last year.
Singh, who owned Shails Trans, a logistics company, was shot multiple times while seated in his vehicle in a restaurant’s parking lot in Meridian Drive, uMhlanga.
The father-of-one who was shot in the head, neck and abdomen, died at the scene. His son was 2 months old at the time.
The State alleged that the murder was premeditated.
Ferrel faces an additional 13 charges which include attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, crimen injuria, and contravention of the Cybercrimes Act and Firearms Control Act.
According to the indictment, the State, represented by senior advocate Krishen Shah, alleged that Ferrel, who was previously married, commenced a relationship with Varushka Maharaj in 2024. Maharaj was also previously romantically involved with Byron Moodley.
