A legacy of passion and creativity

THE dearly-departed Rekha Ramjogi was an incredible friend for many years. She had a pleasant disposition, but most impressive was her relentless work ethic.
During a recent meeting over lunch, which sadly turned out to be the last, Rekha was committed to collaborate with Radiocracy on its “Quest for Literacy” initiative — she had an affinity for anything that promoted education.
Even though ill-health took its toll in the past few years, she had the presence of mind to pen this contribution titled, Vitality and Vibrancy of Radio for the legacy book, My Radio Memory: Listening to the Listener:
“My first experience with radio was in 1990. I was a second-year student at the ML Sultan Technikon studying towards a graphic design diploma.
“I remember our head of department, Ian Sutherland, walking into our lecture room and announcing that the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) radio had a design project for the department.
“Our graphic design class was briefed to design the new Radio Lotus logo.
“The station will be celebrating 10 years in existence and was going stereo. To celebrate this milestone, SABC wanted to relaunch Radio Lotus with a new fresh logo. There was going to be an event at the SABC in Durban where the winner would be announced following the selection process.
