Virtual actors, virtual art, virtual lives... and virtually no restraint

Human creativity has surely taken another backwards step with the eerie appearance of Tilly Norwood, the first 100% Al generated actor.

Virtual actors, virtual art, virtual lives... and virtually no restraint

This is a character generated by a computer program that mimics the work of countless professional performers with zero permission or compensation. This can only sadly threaten performer livelihoods and devalue human artistry.

Unveiling Tilly at the Zurich film festival in a comic sketch called AI Commissioner has understandably caused an outcry. Al is, at best, a finicky simulation, a klutzy caricature of the real thing. You do not need to look too hard to see the mounting imperfections.
