Local MOTHS celebrates Remembrance Day
Polokwane Observer
|November 20, 2025
True to tradition, the Botha Shell hole of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) in the city celebrated Remembrance Day with a parade at the shellhole last Sunday.
The event kicked off at 11:00 with a fly-pass by three civilian aircrafts, piloted by Kobie Roux, Martin Erasmus and JJ Cronjé with one of the aircraft breaking away from the formation to symbolise the fallen soldier who leaves behind his comrades.
This was followed by script reading and a prayer by Rev Matie Horn.
The choir of Pietersburg Laerskool entertained guests with a song and Janie Wierenga recited a poem, 'In Flanders' Fields'.
Son of former 'Old Bill' of the shellhole, Frank Ireland Mockford, Bryan Mockford addressed guests and was followed by deputy provincial police commissioner: visible policing and special operations, Maj Gen Jan Scheepers, who delivered the keynote address.
