Jeneba's city recital 'utterly convincing'
Perthshire Advertiser
|May 02, 2025
In a striking, shimmering turquoise dress Jeneba Kanneh-Mason approached the Steinway in Perth Concert Hall in a welcome return recital. In all styles her playing was utterly convincing.
Beginning with two contrasted Scarlatti Sonatas: the A Major Kk24 had fusillades of repeated notes and runs treated with humour, noticeable too in the twice occurring prim cadence.
The f minor Kk466 fully reflected its deep feeling, particularly in the second strain.
Chopin followed with the two Nocturnes of Op.27: the first with a gentle, pensive barcarolle, stormier and grander in the central section.
The second’s calm tune was finely brought out, emotionally heightened, and with delicate filigree work.
