SANParks still assessing

The aftermath of the devastating Table Mountain fire that destroyed about 3 000 hectares of vegetation remained under investigation, South African National Parks (SANParks) said.

On Thursday 1 May, SANParks sent out a low-flying helicopter to survey the Silvermine area to assess the damage to the hiking trails, according to SANParks' head of communications, JP Louw.

"Our helicopter scanned the whole Table Mountain National Park," he said. "We can confirm there were no human fatalities. We will release a report on the damages at the appropriate time."
