Simply listening and understanding is key

As fleeting and unpredictable as the weather can be, so too have our personal lives become in the ever shifting global and economic landscape.
We find ourselves wrestling to understand while we keep our heads above water. These daily anxieties wracking our brains have been compounded by the raging war in the Middle East and the conflict over the Strait of Hormuz which has caused an unprecedented fuel hike that punctured our pockets as we looked on helplessly at the price of petrol and diesel skyrocketing as we approached the month of April.
Ironically the fuel hike arrived on April Fool's Day, how apt we find ourselves caught in the middle of a joke where one can only laugh instead of cry at the imminent rising costs and inflation that awaits us in the coming weeks. Research shows that the increase in petrol (fuel) prices is a significant global economic shock that triggers a “chain reaction, leading to higher inflation, increased cost of living, and slower economic growth”.
Slowly we'll see how these fuel hikes affect the groceries we buy as fuel is “essential” for transporting goods, agriculture, and manufacturing.

Taxis and buses monitoring the oil market
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) said given that most minibus taxis operate on diesel, which is largely unregulated, the significant price increase means the industry will continue to absorb the greatest impact of the current fuel price adjustments.

Conformity is mistaken for righteousness
I wrote a story on a Gender-based violence (GBV) case before about Thandokazi (not her real name) who reached out, had her partner arrested and left an abusive partner only to meet someone who mirrored the same controlling behaviour.
