Junior mayor gets recognition

At just 16 years old, Michael-Daniel Bam is proving that leadership and service have no age limit.

On Saturday 13 September, the Junior Executive Mayor of the Cape Town Junior City Council and founder of the Michael Daniel Bam Foundation made history as the youngest finalist at the Western Cape Government's Service Excellence Awards.

This Claremont resident was shortlisted in the Best Resident Performance (Individual) category, which celebrates citizens who have made an exceptional impact in their communities.

"Although he did not take home the top award, his recognition as a finalist placed him shoulder to shoulder with some of the province's most dedicated changemakers.

Speaking after the ceremony, Bam described the evening as a defining moment.

Will Sona optimism translate to real change?

While President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke of a strengthening rand, falling inflation, and renewed investor confidence during his State of the Nation Address (Sona) at Cape Town City Hall on Thursday 12 February, many of us woke up the next morning to a far less reassuring reality: dry taps, rising living costs, unemployment queues, and neighbourhoods where safety cannot be taken for granted.
