Robot cleaners will be used in schools

Renfrewshire Council has taken on eight robots to help spruce up areas within school buildings after a trial of the equipment.

The local authority has said investment in the technology - known as cobotics or collaborative robotics - highlights its "commitment" to "innovative and efficient solutions" in cleaning its facilities.

The initial cost, which has been calculated at £189,000, will be formally added to the capital plan for 2025/26, if elected members approve the step tomorrow.

A brief update on the project has been included in a report to the council's finance, resources and customer services policy board on Thursday.

It explained: "In early June, the business case for eight robotic scrubber dryers was approved, which led to an order being placed with an approved contractor.

"The order included a three-year service plan for each unit, and all machines were delivered on July 21.
