Saints Women's star is following in the footsteps of Pollok United Academy veteran
A St Mirren Women star is determined to follow in her late mum's footsteps after being nominated for a top award.
Nikki Lavery, who is a forward with the Buddies, has been named a finalist in the Barclays League One player of the year category at the ScottishPower Women's Football Awards.
Nikki was shortlisted alongside Claire Hutton of Dunipace, Chelsea Lowe of Bonnyrigg Rose and Khya McGurk of Bonnyrigg Rose.
However, just being in the conversation is enough for the talented 18-year-old who is doing her mum, Janie, proud.
Janie was successful at the Scottish FA Grassroots Awards before she sadly passed away in 2018.
In 2017, the former Pollok United Soccer Academy coach received the People's Choice Award with Merit in recognition for her work with the academy.
"Football in general has a very personal touch to me," Nikki told the Express.
