Long-awaited works could be approved

A comprehensive programme of repairs for the iconic A-listed Steeple Hall in Kilbarchan is expected to begin at the end of next month.

The contract for the first phase, which will focus on the internal and external fabric of the Steeple Square building, will go before elected members this week.

If given the green light at a meeting of the Renfrewshire Council's finance, resources and customer services policy board on Thursday, the near £350,000 deal will be awarded to WH Kirkwood.

Councillor Andy Doig, an independent representative for the village, said: "If approved, this would be long-awaited and much welcomed by the whole village and key opinion formers like the Kilbarchan General Society.

"Phase one of the works would include repairs to the external and internal fabric of the building and focus on the refurbishment of the roof, leadwork, and rainwater goods, as well as an internal upgrade of the building services.
