The dad of a Celtic fan killed on an English motorway after boarding the wrong supporters’ bus has issued a safety plea to young people ahead of an inquest into his son's death.

- JOHN-PAUL CLARK

Tragic John Burns, 22, from Renfrewshire, was struck by multiple vehicles on the M6 near Carlisle, Cumbria, after getting off the bus on September 14 last year.

The young dad-of-one had attended Celtic’s Premiership game against Hearts earlier that day before ending up in Carlisle.

An inquest was launched in Cockermouth two weeks after John’s death but was immediately paused to allow a police investigation to take place.

It is understood Cumbria police has concluded its probe into the fatal collision and is set to pass over a file to the coroner.

Speaking to our sister title, the Daily Record, John’s dad James, 48, said the last year has been ‘hell on earth’ after the death of his eldest son.
