The flag of Johnstone Burgh Football Club will be flown in the town's Houstoun Square following a decision by elected members.

- JACK THOMSON, LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

Burgh flag will fly high in town centre

The idea was first suggested after it was realised Renfrewshire Council wouldn't be able to unfurl the old burgh coat of arms as originally planned.

This was because the local authority had learned it effectively does not have the power to display that particular emblem at this time.

As a result, it has been agreed following a vote at a full council meeting to fly the flag of Johnstone Burgh FC for a period.

Councillor Andy Doig, who represents Johnstone North, said it was only "fitting and appropriate" to fly the club's flag in light of their recent success.
