SC: State cops can probe Central govt employees

The Supreme Court has ruled that state police authorities can investigate and file a chargesheet against Union government employees when it comes to the offences of bribery and corruption under Prevention of Corruption Act.
Not only Central agencies, but also state police officers of certain ranks are competent to investigate and file chargesheet against Central government employees in cases relating to offences punishable under Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, the Supreme Court has clarified. Upholding a Rajasthan High Court order that had refused to quash a corruption case against a Central government employee, the top court also said that no prior permission from CBI is required for the purpose.
The court has also made it clear that no prior permission from the CBI is required before registering a case against a Central government employee by the state police.
