Adolescents as co-creators in City planning: H&UD Min

Adolescents are not just users of the City—they are co-creators, Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said Saturday, noting that their assessments help reveal how public spaces shape health, safety, inclusion and well-being. He was speaking as chief guest at “UDDIPAAN - The Future is OURS! Adolescents Co-Designing Smarter Cities,” a civic forum organised by Humara Bachpan Trust (HBT) in collaboration with WRI India.

Affirming the government's commitment to youth-centric urban planning, the minister highlighted ongoing public space reforms, including child-friendly infrastructure, accessible recreational facilities for children with disabilities, and affordable housing for economically weaker communities.

Speaking on the occasion, BMC Commissioner & BDA Vice Chairman Chanchal Rana said, “Children are honest opinion-givers. When they are prioritised in design, it results in holistic development for people of all ages.
