NEW CUTS AFTER £40M OF SPENDING REDUCTIONS 'NOT ENOUGH'

THE University of Nottingham could cut more than 300 jobs after bosses concluded that planned £40 million spending cuts would not be enough to preserve its future.

The prestigious city university is considering reducing the number of professional service roles by 258, as well as removing 98 vacant posts.

However, this is just part one of the Russell Group institution's "Future Nottingham" savings programme.

On Tuesday, the university launched a 90-day consultation with the unions for phase one of the programme.

And later this month, the university will be opening a voluntary redundancy window with an enhanced redundancy package for staff affected by the changes.
