Student flats could become children's home

STUDENT flats in Mapperley Park could be turned into a children's home - but neighbours fear it could pose “serious safety and wellbeing concerns” and harm the character of the area.

Leicester-based Ajwa Homes Ltd wants to convert a building in Devon Court, Villa Road, into a home for five young people aged 16 to 18.

The three-storey detached building had previously been used to accommodate 11 students.

The young people would be care leavers or children being looked after by local councils who require support in a semi-independent environment.

More than 30 neighbouring properties have been informed of the plans, and 14 representations have been made.
