If you're still to be convinced that children should be barred from taking mobile phones into schools, I'd suggest you read a report by Everyone's Invited.

Schools need more staff and cash to control phone problem

Be warned, though: it's not for the faint-hearted.

The charity's 2025 Primary Schools List names 1,664 primary schools where, people say, they were sexually abused while aged five to 11.

One 10-year-old girl said she was told by a boy that he would pay another £20 to rape her. A girl of nine was abused by her friend's brother, then taunted at school.

Among the victims' anonymous posts are lurid tales of sexist name-calling, groping, harassment and inappropriate touching - evidence, the charity says, that "rape culture is prevalent in all schools".

Teachers reported that children under the age of nine were watching pornography.

Soma Sara, founder of Everyone's Invited, told the Times newspaper: "If just one kid in the class has a phone, they all have access to a world of porn and violence.
