Rufford Ford could reopen if show-offs can be halted

A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE ford could be reopened after becoming a “significant danger” when high-speed attempts at driving through it went viral.

The historic Rufford Ford was regularly attended by Nottinghamshire Police in 2022 as attempted crossings were made when water levels were too high.

The site, near Ollerton, attracted huge attention on platforms such as YouTube and drew in spectators from across the country. Dangerous incidents included a motorcyclist being propelled over his handlebars after driving into the ford and the crossing has been closed since December 2022.

Concrete barriers were placed at either side as a temporary measure while a review was carried out into its long-term future. Nottinghamshire County Council said in February 2024 that its preferred option would be a permanent closure.
