A LIBRARY could "stick out like a sore thumb" in a town after a £20 million redevelopment, says a leading councillor.

A boutique cinema, new shops and housing are among improvements planned for Ollerton using money announced by the last government under its Levelling Up Fund.

Background work on the scheme began in 2022 and a key aspect is a new library to replace the existing one on Forest Road.

But with all the work set to be finished by summer next year, a row has broken out which could mean the old library staying put.

Labour-run Newark and Sherwood District Council says Nottinghamshire County Council is not offering enough money to help redevelop the library.

But the Tory county council says changes to the library plan mean it is not "financially responsible" to invest in it.
