Reform UK to put up more than 150 Union flags across Notts
Nottingham Post
|October 25, 2025
REFORM UK will be putting up more than 150 Union flags across Nottinghamshire in a bid to “strengthen community spirit” as it defends spending £75,000 on new banners.
Opposition parties say the money could have been spent on other council services - but Reform says its new banner locations will also be used to support events like Armistice Day, Christmas and Easter in future.
The initial use though will see 164 double-sided Union flags installed on roads stretching from Worksop to Ruddington.
The move follows a summer of debate over flags after 'Operation Raise the Colours' was launched in August 2025, calling for the prominent display of the Union and English flags.
One man painted the English flag on his Sutton-in-Ashfield home, but a woman wearing a Union flag dress was turned away from a Wetherspoon pub in the town after the pub chain said flags and placards could “increase tensions” during an anti-illegal immigration protest.
