Paterson: Magpies too sloppy and paid price

MARTIN Paterson says sloppy play cost Notts County as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

They lost 4-3 in a penalty shootout against non-League Brackley Town after the first round tie finished 2-2.

After being knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the first round, Magpies head coach Paterson wanted to go on a run in the game's oldest competition but his side were on the wrong end of an upset.

Notts led twice in the tie but Brackley made it 2-2 with a penalty deep in stoppage time, with another 30 minutes of action required before the Magpies fell short in the shootout.

"I thought we were just so sloppy with the ball in moments where we usually can hurt the opposition by connecting passes and opening them up," said Paterson.
