Park warning signs over toxic algae

WARNING signs have been put up at a popular beauty spot after algae levels in a lake became toxic.

Testing of the water at Cotgrave Country Park revealed that potentially harmful concentrations of cyanobacteria - known as blue-green algae - had bloomed earlier this month.

Dogs should be kept on leads and swimming is now strictly prohibited. Regular repeat testing will now be done, but it is unclear how long algae levels will take to drop under the toxic threshold.
