Park and ride plan on ice as cash goes to rival schemes

PLANS for a new park and ride and a country park heritage centre are set to miss out on funding after another project was favoured.

Gedling Borough Council will soon decide which projects should benefit from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which allows local authorities to collect money from developers for large infrastructure programmes.

The council had previously launched a consultation on a shortlist of potential projects, including a new bus-based park and ride at Leapool Roundabout, off Mansfield Road, to the north of Redhill, and a new heritage centre at Gedling Country Park that would educate visitors about the area’s history.

But a newly released council report has recommended councillors should instead prioritise funding the redevelopment and improvement of leisure facilities in Carlton.
