A DOWNBEAT Matt Palmer reflected on Notts County’s season ending after the play-off semi-final defeat to AFC Wimbledon.

The Magpies skipper played through the full tie as Stuart Maynard’s side were beaten 1-0 in the second leg away from home, losing 2-0 on aggregate after suffering the same scoreline in the home game.

Wimbledon scored early through Josh Neufville, making the already difficult task of overturning the first-leg deficit away from home even more challenging.

Without their top two goal scorers, the suspended Alassana Jatta and injured David McGoldrick, Notts did not have the cutting edge they needed.

Saturday's game rounded off an anticlimactic end to the campaign for County, as their automatic promotion hopes fizzled out.

This led to a play-off tie in which they could not score once over two legs.
