THE next major stage of demolition at the former Broadmarsh Centre is set to begin in days following a slight delay on the project.

Just one half of the former shopping centre remains standing after its operator went bust in 2020, with the other half having been transformed into the Green Heart park.

Work is soon set to begin on demolishing another section of the old centre under plans to transform part of it into a £25 million NHS centre.

The Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) will be at the former row of Lister Gate shops that made up part of the shopping centre and, under current plans, it will be the only part of the old centre still standing.

Initial “enabling works” to separate this section of the shopping centre from the rest of its remains - by demolishing a large part of the site in-between - were originally set to finish by the end of November.
