BULWELU'S Craig Nelson and Newark’s Jade Grierson were among the winners at Newark Showground.

Newark promoter Carl Greaves, in partnership with Newark’s amateur/ professional boxing coach Dean Sugden, returned to the venue for the second time this year with an entertaining five fight show.

“I thought it was a really good night’s boxing for the fans,” said Greaves.

“It’s been hard work as, ideally, I would have liked there to have been seven fights but unfortunately that’s the way ‘Small-Hall Boxing’ is going.

“From a promoter’s point of view, it was a mixed night results wise but,

overall, I’m happy that Dean and I have delivered again for Newark.”

Top of the bill saw Boston's Tom Pogson (7-1-1(1)) take on Nelson (3-1(1)) for the vacant Midlands area cruiserweight title.

Pogson tried to dictate the pace from the start, dominating the contest with his boxing skills, but there was a warning sign as Nelson caught him with a right hand over the top.

Nelson also sustained a cut above the right eye from a big left hand from Pogson.
